Google may be one of the largest companies in the world, but is a company that tells lies and manipulates others. Is that sustainable long term in this changing, more integrity focused world?
You may be shocked by the statement that “Google lies” – many people have been upon hearing it, so you’re in the majority of people, not the minority if you are.
Google withholds and manipulates data which can be seen in numerous ways, with one being the use of Search Console.
Search Console, if you aren’t familiar with it, used to be part of a Google free-platform called Webmaster Tools.
Search Console is a tool, similar to Analytics except that its all about the organic search traffic performance of a website.
You can set it up by simply adding the Google supplied code to your website header, so that every page provides data for reports you can see in Search Console.
Its an amazing and powerful tool – IF you understand that Google can lie about what its showing and telling you.
Its interesting that once a door is open to the truth, how much will come through it over time.
More and more evidence is there to demonstrate the lies or fabrication of stories by Google, or the withholding of facts as part of their standard operation, which they make no apologies for.
Here’s one example worth reading, on a very prominent, high traffic website – GBR – tech and entertainment news, reviews, opinions and insights.
Did you click and read that article?
Its about overwhelming evidence of Google lying after falling into a specially designed trap that can only result in evidence that Google is lying.
Google Lies about Search Results
Every SEO expert worth a pinch of salt knows that Google lies. If they don’t, they are no expert or have very little experience.
Here’s a simple test to see one lie for yourself.
Click here and this will open up a Google Search for the uncommon phrase: Google lies about search results.
Its a good idea to click on that link, just so you can see this isn’t the only post on the topic!
These were the results of this search, in terms of how many results there were…
Notice in the red rectangle it shows a figure of results – 656,000,000!
Now, in your window, go down the bottom and click on the number under Google for pages, the furthest and highest one you can see, which may be page 10.
Then click on the furthest number to the right again and keep doing it. In just a few clicks you will find the end page of results, which looked like this from the search…
Now it does say, some results have been omitted. But 230 is a LOT less than the 656,000,000 supposed results stated before.
So let’s do what Google said, repeat the search with omitted results included.
This produced this result…
This search supposedly produced 748,000,000 results, when it fact it produced ONLY 348 results. That’s a 747 million fewer.
Its important to do this yourself so you can see this is the truth, not just a fabrication of a story.
This is relevant when it comes to learning about improving search results – i.e. more traffic to your website that produces more leads and sales.
Here’s another example of Google’s lies, or at least contradicts itself.
In Google Keyword Planner it shows this result for the phrase ‘How to grow a company successfully’…
It states the number of Impressions is 19.80 even though the Volume is said to be 90.
Now here’s the number of actual Impressions in Google Search Console for 28 days…
It shows number of Impressions of 440! That’s a massive contradiction. How can the impression by 20 times more than what Google itself said?
What this means is, Google doesn’t want you to know anything about keywords searched for. It wants to play God and be God of the internet, withholding truth.
Having a good understanding of facts, and what they mean and how to interpret them from experience is very important, if you want to save thousands on your marketing and months of wasted experimentation.
Keep reading though as there’s some good news below on what you can do moving forward, to achieve better, faster results, without spending loads of money.
Truth and Lies About Search Engine Result Improvements
You can improve your website a LOT yourself, if you’re prepare to do a little bit of work, but you need to understand what the truth and the lies are.
Best of all you make significant improvements – for FREE with just your own time.
Its not hard work, but you will need a basic understanding of your website’s Admin section to make changes. That may mean going to YouTube to look up “how to make changes in Admin in WordPress” etc.
This improvement begins with an infrequently used tool of Google’s – Search Console. Its a great tool because its 100% about organic searches and your website.
It reveals these interesting figures…
- What phrases Google indexes (appears in search results) your site is relevant to
- How many times each individual phrase appears in search results
- Which pages are indexed
- What keyword phrases are associated with and indexed for each page
- Number of clicks for each phrase
- Number of impressions for each phrase
- Click Through Rate percentages from impressions to clicks (website visitors)
- Position of each phrase in search results
That last one may sound exciting, to see where your site ranks for any individual keyword phrase, but its highly inaccurate and wildly fluctuating.
This is another example of a Google lie. Where it says you rank, for example position 43 and where you actually rank, position 8 can be radically different. That’s one set of figures you are best to completely ignore.
Most of the above when viewed may seem accurate, however Google has the power to manipulate websites results, which you also need to be aware of.
How Google Plays God with Websites
Google sees fit not to rank a new website high – except for its business name.
There have been many extensive research projects undertaken by numerous online marketing companies to confirm this.
One such highly respected SEO related research company is Ahrefs. Their platform is all about research and facts related to improving website traffic and search engine ranking results.
One extensive research project they undertook confirmed that new sites don’t tend to rank and older URL’s do, all things being equal.
Google has the power and wields it, to determine what phrases a website should rank.
But also, and this is a BIG factor, Google chooses how frequently a web page will appear in a search result.
Yes, you heard that correct!
Google chooses if a website will be listed in a search result.
An appearance in a search result Google has named an “Impression” which is virtually an appearance, somewhere in the results.
A person may never get to where a website result is as they may go no further than page 1 when a web page appears on page 10 of results, but that’s still an impression.
Here’s an example of where Google has “chosen” not to list a web page for results or impressions as often as it could…
For the exact same phrase the number of searches is very different.
The dates where for 30 days in March 2019 compared to 30 days in May 2019.
Note the BIG differences in number of Impressions.
Most phrases saw an increase in impressions – not by a little but often by multiple hundreds of percent.
You can see all this yourself with your own website data – for free – with Search Console and you’d be smart to be looking at this.
The Good News about Google Search Console Data
As you can see, the majority of phrases saw substantial increases in that 2 different months of figures.
Here’s the overall difference for the whole website for the same date range…
The number of Impressions has increased from 39.6k to 58.8k in a time frame of 2 months.
The number of clicks is up from 182 to 192, with clicks being website visitors.
The health of a website as determined by Google is seen using Search Console.
One very significant ranking factor, that is primarily causing the figures to increase so dramatically is Page View Time.
Its as simple as this…
If someone visits a web page and stays on the page longer, than the other pages in search results for the same phrase, Google “likes” the page more and will rank it higher.
Google, I believe, takes note of how long someone stays on a page and then will allow it to appear more in search results, so Impressions increase by making a page more Google friendly.
Google friendly in this case is people/visitor friendly.
That’s one of 200+ ranking factors Google uses, but a significant one so it pays to give it your attention.
You can benefit from understanding Google’s ranking factors, not all, but some of them, to increase traffic on your own website, quite easily.
How to Increase Impressions, Clicks and Traffic to Your Website
Yes Google tells lies and manipulates data as can be seen with this article, plus hundreds of others if you did the search using the link above for ‘Google lies about search results.’
However, you can learn to ‘play the Google game’ and understand how to use Search Console, for significant traffic increases, and traffic increases mean more leads and sales for your business.
Think of it as one big sales funnel, like this…
The more Impressions you have, the more sales and sales you generate. It all starts with ways to increase Impressions and Clicks.
Increasing Impressions is very much about the visitor and Google “friendliness” factors.
The number of words on a page helps this. Less than 400 and Google doesn’t fully understand enough context of what the page is about, so the page will have a low number of phrases indexed for it. That reduces Impressions.
Good blog posts, like this one, ideally need to be 2,000 words or so long. Web pages of 700 to 1,000 words are fine too. People don’t have to read every word on the page, they can skip most and they actually do, so having extra words doesn’t hurt.
The Home page on this website saw an increase from 180 to 297 phrases it was indexed for, shown in Search Console, for a March to May comparison.
What brought this increase?
Good copywriting – related to “User intent.”
User intent means having words on a web page that are ‘visitor friendly’ – i.e. relevant and beneficial to the person. That seems plain and simple, but less than 10% of websites cater to this need.
Obvious evidence of this is the very frequent use of the word “we” on the page.
Anything with “we” in it is feature orientated, not benefits. People want and are focused on benefits, as in “What’s in it for me” or how is this relative to my interests or intent.
If people want a business service, they want to know the business can help them by describing their situation and ‘problem.’
Self-promoting, with regular use of the word we, is self-promoting as a focus and repelling to website visitors, who then call a business and ask about price, because they don’t know what else to ask.
Here’s an example of a site’s increase in Impressions and Clicks with just feedback on some basic changes, not a full change of all wording. Headlines and a couple of images only.
Impressions are up about 40% and Clicks 33%. This was for a home services business.
And a website where all the text was changed with my copywriting service and a few images too…
Impressions are up about 100% and Clicks are up 42%. This was for a home services business too.
This website is in a very competitive industry so Clicks haven’t increased yet, until the SEO strategies (back-links) kick in that we’re implementing.
Here’s one more example of improvements from basic tweaks of copywriting and a few blogs…
That’s the last 3 months for this (Profit Transformations) website.
The click increase is higher than Impressions so that’s a nice result.
Here’s one more result for a B2B IT industry business for a 28 day comparison. The focus was on increasing the number of clicks for just one phrase on one page the site was already ranking in the top 5 for…
The number of clicks increased by 19, more than double in less than a month, from some very minor changes to the web page TITLE, Description and headline that required about 10 minutes to do.
When looking at the keyword phrase then the page TITLE and Description they were very boring so a one word added to the TITLE and a change to the Description to make the business more attractive in search results, plus a page headline improvement is all that was needed to increase clicks and leads in 28 days.
The key question about all these results shown above is… what potential increase in traffic is there for your website?

The Most Important Marketing Question
Here it is…
Have you just spent money on marketing service providers, or your own education as well?
If you’re prepared to spend thousands on a new website every few years, plus $1,000/month on Google Ads and/or SEO management and/or social media management, why not spend hundreds on your own education?
Its your business and no one cares more about your success than you. Having a good understanding of what you’re paying for is absolutely essential, if you want better results, and want to avoid burning up money on poor marketing service providers.
You can start with a free marketing education.
Paying for an education is the best time and money investment you’ll ever make in your business. That’s what clients have found, as you can see from results shown above.
This post is meant to be educational to give you foundations for understanding website optimisation and its extraordinary potential. So have you learned a few things here?
This is just some of the basics to learn about marketing and traffic. There’s so much more you can learn though, especially about the use of Search Console and its benefits.
One client found out that his $24,000 spent on SEO so far has given his website very little value, in our very first mentoring discussion.
He had 70+ “duplicate” pages that Google was ignoring. He’d spent a small fortune on SEO over 2 years, yet he wasn’t getting good value as it soon became evident when looking at his Search Console data.
If an investment in your own education sounds smart, to save you a fortune on generating leads through PPC or SEO etc. then consider the Marketing Fast Track, half day workshop. It’s live mentoring on marketing, plus it includes a critique of your website as the first home services business above benefited from.
That’s followed by access to the Private Members Area where you can watch 16 videos related to Search Console, SEO, PPC, keyword research and more.
After that education you are then eligible for a 1-hour recorded video meeting to discuss your results of applying the practical content you’ve received so far, and your next steps.
The Marketing Fast Track is just about the most practical content on marketing you’ll see.
The feedback in the form of Google Reviews and the 5/5 Star Rating reflect the quality of content and experiences of clients.
Remember, education isn’t expensive, but ignorance and blind trust sure is.
